About the Art
It's a sane, and steady life as a Mum, with a young family. The counterweight is a secret world of painting. My studio is my own piece of the world, and art thoughts ramble on, behind the scenes of domestic life. Paint is unconquerable, and painting teases me with a necessary madness.
I paint about what I know, and what I'm trying to understand. Mostly I'm interested in people, so my work is largely figurative. I'm curious about what shapes an individual personality, as well as what shapes the collective identity of a family, a profession, a stage in life, an era etc. People watching is a favourite pastime.
A lot of the time, I begin developing images that make visual sense to me, and via the process of painting, I grow to understand them a lot more. They are always about something. Often I focus on irony. I like an element of surprise, multiple meanings and analogy. My understanding of a painting might continue to unfold over time.
As of August 08, I have two kids in school and begin painting every day. I'm too excited.
